Privacy in Three Words

Three Words is run by Ørjan Hanssen. For privacy questions, contact orjan.hanssen@gmail.com.

Your game and account

We store your player name, submitted words, scores and league memberships to run the game. When you sign in with ChatGPT, we receive a stable user ID, your email address and, if available, your name. Your email is used for account information and editor access; other players see your player name and scores. Guests are identified by a random browser cookie that lasts up to 30 days.

Unfinished words and preferences are stored locally in your browser. Submitted results and leagues are stored with Sites. Internal usage counters record the date, player ID and a basic traffic source for visits, submissions and invitations. These are not sent to Google. The game does not yet automatically delete old account or guest data. Contact us to request access to or deletion of your data.

Optional Google Analytics

Google Analytics 4 loads only if you accept analytics. We use it to understand where visitors come from, which parts of the game they use and whether they return. We measure page views, game starts, completions, league actions and use of the share button. We do not send player names, email addresses, answer words, league names, account IDs or invitation codes.

Google receives technical information such as your browser, device and IP address when you connect. Google uses IP addresses for purposes including approximate location statistics and states that it discards raw IP addresses after use. The cookies _ga and _ga_… distinguish browsers and visits; we set their lifetime to 180 days. Google Signals and personalised advertising are disabled in our integration.

This processing is based on your consent. You can decline or withdraw it at any time under “Privacy choices” at the bottom of the page. The game works without analytics. Your choice, its timestamp and the consent version are stored in your browser for up to six months. Withdrawing consent stops new tracking but does not automatically delete data previously collected by Google.

Google may process data outside the EEA. See Google's Privacy Policy and Google's information about GA4 and privacy. You can contact us to request access, correction or deletion, and lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
